How Great Thou Art
I snapped this picture around sunset last night. Immediately, I thought of the hymn, “How Great Thou Art.”
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art! How great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art! How great thou art!

A Letter From The Past
Here’s a comment that was written in 97 AD to the church at Corinth, a very troubled church. Yet, can these statements be made of our churches? Some, yes, but few.

For who ever dwelt even for a short time among you, and did not find your faith to be as fruitful of virtue as it was firmly established? Who did not admire the sobriety and moderation of your godliness in Christ? Who did not proclaim the magnificence of your habitual hospitality? And who did not rejoice over your perfect and well-grounded knowledge? For ye did all things without respect of persons, and walked in the commandments of God, being obedient to those who had the rule over you, and giving all fitting honor to the presbyters among you.

Bees carry the treasures they’ve gathered back home.
I noticed the bees at work this morning. They gather all they can, and then they carry their treasure back home to their hive. On this, the Lord’s day, we, too, should gather all we can from church and Bible studies, and then carry these treasures back to our homes so all can feast on the goodness of God’s Word. I pray (really ) that you will have a blessed day today.

Every living thing needs a home.
I was looking out of my office window, at our (wife’s) flower garden. We have several bird houses there to help keep our tiny patch dirt “earth healthy.” God has made us stewards of His creation. It’s ours to use and it is also our responsibility. On that day when we give an account to Jesus, we will be held accountable for what we did (1 Peter 4:5). I’m sure this encompasses His creation, including the birds and bees and all such creatures.

Does Caffeine Help?
I love coffee. My compassion makes me feel bad for all of the tea drinkers in the world. 😉 Anyway, I had a thought; does caffeine help, hinder, or is of no effect during our private devotional time?

John Owen.

I’ve been reading Communion with God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. by John Owen (1616 – 24 August 1683). It’s heavy-duty reading. He wrote this masterpiece around 1657. I marvel at the prolific, yet profound, works of people like John Owen, Martin Luther, and John Wesley.

Daniel Silva’s new Gabriel Allon book.

I’m bummed. Over the last 20 years, I’ve been a fan of Daniel Silva’s Gabriel Allon books. Other than the first book, the fictitious Israeli spy novels have been entertaining while having little to no profanity or immorality. Even violence has usually been kept within a moral context.

Sadly, it seems Mr. Silvia’s latest Gabriel Allon book takes a sharp turn toward anti-Christianity. Nearly all authors tire of their most successful characters, but most have the decency to kill them off and not leave that to their fans.

Here’s a detailed review of The Order. Daniel Silva book review: The Order.
