You Are Seen
God sees you as a person. That may seem overtly obvious, but bear with me for a moment.
God sees you. Have you ever experienced an event where you were not seen? Maybe you had a step-parent who always overlooked you; you grew up in the shadow of siblings from the “new” family. Maybe you had a crush on someone in high school, but that person never saw you. You remained in the blur of outsiders. For me, it was a time when I found myself out of work and was turned down for every job I applied for. I felt like I was useless; just scraps to be thrown out. But God always sees us.
God created each of us. You and I are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalms 119:14). He sees you in the crowd. He sees you in the dark. He sees you when you don’t even want to be seen.
When Hagar, the Egyptian servant of Sari (Sarah), was so badly treated that she ran away, God saw her in her suffering and sent an angel to minister to her. From this, we learned that one of the names of God is “YHWH El-Roi:” God has seen me.
God never changes. He doesn’t just look. No, He is the God who sees. He sees the truth in our suffering and circumstances. Wrapped in His seeing is His action. For Hagar, He gave her a great promise. To the prophet Jeremiah, He declared, “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?” (Jeremiah 32:27).
Be encouraged, for you are not alone; you are not abandoned. You are seen by God.
