Small Things
Who doesn’t love babies? They are so precious and overflowing with spontaneity. As a dad, I sang the following song countless times to my kids.
Oh, be careful little eyes what you see Oh, be careful little eyes what you see For the Father up above is looking down in love So be careful little eyes what you see
As children of God, when we look at our lives, big events seldom define who we truly are. Our lives consist of small things, fleeting moments, and activities that barely qualify as actions or events. Yet it is in the tapestry woven by all of these that our character and our commitment to Jesus are established and seen.
Within our worlds, people know us as teachers, bank tellers, homemakers, auto mechanics, and so forth. And perhaps within our worlds, we have achieved something exceptional, or have suffered something horrible. Nevertheless, we still live our lives moment by moment, day by day. It is not that big thing, but the small things, that express who we are and speak into the lives of others.
Have you ever heard an insincere comment? Somehow, in a split-second, we can all detect this! For the small things in our lives to be genuine and express God’s nature, we must spend time with Him… a lot of time!
Something that fascinates me about the small things of life is that they are mostly unplanned. They are conceived by the Spirit, who lives in us, and manifested by our new nature - we can’t fake it. Therefore, remember, the Father up above is looking down in love, so be careful, little child, how you live.
